Two Levels of Membership

To accommodate artists at every stage of their journey, we offer two distinct membership tiers for residents of Dane County, Wisconsin.

Membership Level Annual Fee Requirements Best For
Guild Artist Member $50 Requires jury approval (Applications open July 15 – August 31) Artists wanting to exhibit, sell, and compete for awards.
Guild Associate Member $36 No jury process required (Join anytime) Artists looking for community, networking, and skill development.


NOTE: Initial consideration to be an Artist Member happens once per year.  Prospective artist members are encouraged to apply via the Jury application that opens in July of each year ($15 application fee) - information can be found on the Events page.  Notification of decisions happen mid to late September.  Accepted artist members do not need to re-jury after initial acceptance unless membership lapses.

How Do I Join the Madison Art Guild?

1. Join as an Artist Member

Initial consideration happens once per year. The jury application period is open from July 15 to August 31 and requires a $15 application fee. Notifications are sent out in September.

Note: If your Guild Artist Membership lapses, re-jurying is required.

Missed the deadline? Don't wait until next year to connect with us. We highly recommend joining our mailing list so you receive a reminder when the next jury period opens, and can stay updated on Guild community events in the meantime.

2. Join as a Guild Associate Member

What Are the Guild Artist Member Benefits?

Public Artist Profile & Directory

Increase your visibility, credibility, and digital discovery. Artist members are featured in our public Guild Member Directory, which includes your artist bio, personal statement, website links, and a gallery of your work.

Guild Exhibit & Sales Opportunities

Gain exclusive access to participate in our annual curated shows:

  • January Showcase (January–February) at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics

  • Summer Salon (June–July) at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics

Exclusive Art Fair Lotteries

Artist members can enter a lottery to secure highly sought-after exhibition slots at premier local art and craft fairs:

  • Middleton Art Walk (May)

  • Art Fair On the Square (July)

  • Paoli Art Fair (August)

Awards & Recognition

Be recognized by your peers and the local community for outstanding work with eligibility for entry into the annual Summer Salon Awards.

Network, Socialize, & Grow

  • Monthly Art Nights: Participate in member-hosted nights to share, critique, and discuss artworks in progress.

  • Annual Gatherings: Attend our Annual Dinner (October), Summer Salon Awards Dinner (June), and Annual Potluck (August).

  • Leadership & Volunteering: Connect deeply behind the scenes by volunteering at events or participating in Guild Board meetings.

  • Artist Development: Attend virtual and in-person Guild Workshops where member artists and guest speakers share business skills, marketing tips, and new technical mediums.


What Are the Guild Associate Member Benefits?

Associate members enjoy full access to all of our networking, social events, and artist development workshops listed above.

Please note: Direct exhibition, art fair lottery entries, and directory profiles with the Guild are exclusively reserved for Artist Members.


Frequently Asked Questions

Can I jury more than once for Artist Membership?

Yes. If your work is not selected during the current jury period, you are highly encouraged to apply again during any future application window. Many of our current members juried more than once as they developed their style.
