Biography

Pǎo Shan is a Sōtō Zen Buddhist Monk, tantrika, visual artist and musician. Their art and design work are a creative, physical manifestation of their meditation practice. Each piece is sprung from thoughts, emotions, visions and concepts that appear in the realm of intentional, waking-consciousness.

Then, by going to hand-brush-ink-paper, they communicate this shifting polarity of spontaneity and intention in a perpetual cycle of creation and completion. Their medium of expression is Sumi inks, pigments, acrylics and collected objects, applied to hand-made Japanese Heritage Washi papers, canvas, papyrus, and other natural fiber media, with Chinese & Japanese calligraphy brushes.
