Biography
I am a color pencil artist who enjoys looking deeply into the marvelous world around us. My background has been in photography, watercolor and I have a BFA degree in weaving and textiles. My love of travel has brought me to fifty countries. Experiencing new places extend to both my love of life and lets me document my world view and from the photos of my travel I now can leisurely look deeply into them and discover their secrets that become my color pencil drawings. The same goes for colorizing old vintage photos I’ve collected. This becomes a meditative act to find the nuance of nature or the personality of a portrait that I can then share with you, the viewer.
I am able to draw figurative as well as abstract images. Blending the two makes the image interesting. Just as having realistic and fantasy mixed together to challenge the viewer. I enjoy challenging myself in what I can reproduce in pencils, trying to replicate wood, rust, water etc. in a hyper- reality way is always fun and hard. I learned to see and frame an image from photography. I acquired my love of colors from my textile arts background. I did own a Madison woman’s clothing store, Indigo Moon, for 18 years. I learned watercolor painting then photo oils/tinting and now very happy with color pencil art. I seemed to paint like I was using pencils anyway so now I draw blending my pencils like paint.
I have done commissions for painting from old family photos and animal portraits.
I am a member in CPSA (color pencil society of America)
I have been published in multiple magazines.
