Biography
She received her degree from the Ohio State University in Art Education. After college she relocated to Indiana for a few years, and then in 1976, moved on to Madison, Wisconsin, where she now resides with her husband. Like so many others, the art student’s dreams were met with the realities of supporting a home and family, so she received her Master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Wisconsin-Madison and worked for the state and subsequently for the University for 34 years. Since she retired seven years ago, she has devoted her time to creating and improving her artwork.
Although she enjoys painting still lifes and landscapes, her primary interest lies in portraiture. Her studies have been in the classical tradition, an approach she did not learn in her university training. Her drawing and painting have been primarily from live models provided at the Atwood Atelier. Although she enjoys capturing an individual’s likeness; integrating their story into their portrait is as important. Conceptually her interests lie in portraying relationships, delving into the past, and the individual’s examination of self.
