Biography
My early artistic interest grew from museum visits in New York City, where our art classes travelled by yellow bus to places like the Met and MoMA. My mother was an artist; I wanted to make art too. I went on to study art in college and graduate school, going on to become an art educator teaching for many years in the Midwest.
After retiring, I moved to Santa Fe, NM where I lived for 11 years, absorbing the pervasive atmosphere and company of art everywhere! I was invited to join a group of artists there (SFAV) which met weekly. When it became too large, it was broken up into smaller groups, one of which I was asked to lead. While there, I began to incorporate photography/video into my projects. I had a large show/installation which focused on Berlin, 27 diptychs along with two wall-projected videos.
My paintings here are derived from water, snow and ice. Inspiration comes from my travels by water from Alaska to the tip of South America, from Iceland to the Baltic, and sailing the Mediterranean. (In addition, but not related to this application, I have created a video showcasing aspects of water; outtakes of which can be seen on my website.) My small (16 x 20) canvases can stand alone, but are perhaps precursors to larger water themed pieces which I envision as scrolls. At some point in the future, I would like to simultaneously show paintings along with my water video, creating an immersive environment.
