Biography

Karen Saunders, Abstract Art: Color…We clothe our bodies and furnish our homes with it. Color Transforms our world and deeply affects our outlook on life. I can still remember opening my first box of crayons and staring at the 64 odd pointed cylinders of color lined up in rows. For me, color is a magical getaway to the world of shape, pattern and texture found in nature. To find my artistic Voice, I originally designed and created contemporary fabric wall hangings. Lately I have been working in watercolor, adding hand stitched elements. I most enjoy creating art when not adhering to a rigid plan. Color and composition are contemplated before creating a new piece. I work intuitively, usually having a starting point, a particular color combination or focal point-but then I just go wherever inspiration leads me, becoming not only a participant but an observer. Relinquish control, trust the process and blending of colors. Perfection isn’t necessarily the goal. There is something energetic about making curvy lines rather than striving for perfection. “Art is Furniture for the Mind”.
