Biography

My work documents a deep and emotional response to my past. I use portraiture and the figure within various contexts, from representation to abstraction, to explore a sense of “home” and “self”, and what these might mean to the subject. My journey through life is revealed in my work, especially my changing attitudes toward human nature and society, from early skepticism to later optimism. Each piece can vary from smooth to irregular, orderly to chaotic, reflecting the turbulence of my earlier life. Self-taught in dyed felted wool, I find the vibrancy, texture, and color of this medium to be especially effective at conveying emotion. I invite the viewer to get close to my work, to capture its mood, and to see the world through my lens.
